The Garden Conservatory at Huntsville Botanical Gardens

Completed 2016
Architects: Matheny Goldmon Architecture + Interiors & Tanglewood Conservatories
Contractor: Turner Construction

Botanical gardens have historically been home to many beautiful conservatories and the Huntsville Botanical Garden is no exception. While an existing glass-roofed butterfly house has long been a prime attraction, this glass conservatory is part of a newly renovated guest center. It serves as a meeting room and a much sought after event venue. Weddings in the conservatory, a truly unique setting, are especially popular.

The stately 32,000 square foot facility features three new premiere rental venues (including the conservatory) as well as a carriage house, gift shop, cafe, offices and meeting rooms, and additional visitor amenities. According to an article by Matheny Goldmon:

“Timeless and graceful, functional and resilient – the building’s design is a culmination of ideas from MGA+I design team, garden members and staff, the project planning committee, and the community, and as such, is sure to be a lasting asset as the epicenter of the visitor experience.”

As Tanglewood Conservatory describes, “The classical architecture of this glass conservatory was designed to harmonize with the neoclassical visitor center yet stand out itself. The curvilinear roof is constructed of flat glass panels rendering a faceted, jewel-like appearance. The glass conservatory at the Huntsville Botanical Garden provides a spectacular backdrop for weddings, corporate meetings and many other special events.
