Far from being relics of an age past, conservatories in the early 21st-century are enjoying a resurgence around the world. Just as 19th-century conservatories embraced that era’s new technology and new perceptions of the common good, today’s conservatories are at the forefront of design trends, energy-efficient systems, and our evolving understanding of the importance of nature for human well-being.

While steel conservatories are the most durable for use in commercial applications, the delicacy of their structure also offers unparalleled opportunity to create architectural drama! This beautiful steel and glass custom conservatory by Tanglewood Conservatories brings the sky and passing clouds into full view at Auburn University. The University desired a conservatory that was a versatile space to easily adapt to any event for different units across campus to advance the university’s mission. Director of public affairs for the University, Brian Keeter said, “[we wanted to create] a larger space solely dedicated to events... The space can be easily adapted for development, fundraising, alumni relations and more. The size and scope of this fundraising effort and the critical role of the President’s Home made in achieving the goal made it clear that the existing, historic home is far more an event facility than it is a residence for the President and his/her family."
